Red Ribbon

Red Ribbon Week Banner

Red Ribbon originated in 1985 to honor Federal Drug Enforcement Agent “Kiki” Camerino who was violently killed in Mexico by drug cartel members. What started as a local event in San Diego, grew into a nation wide event within two years.

In 1989, Livingston residents Chris Bernal and Martha Nateras started a local event with 85 children participating in the first march. Today, that same event draws over 1,500 children, teachers, and parents from the community to support the efforts to fight drug abuse in our community.

One entire week in October is dedicated to drug abuse prevention. Events are held throughout the week to drive home the message of the dangers of using illegal drugs. The Livingston Police Department has not only supported this very worthwhile program, but has become an active participant in the week -long event. We commend and thank all of the volunteers who have dedicated their time and efforts to this great program.
